Yuping Summit

Yuping Summit. Situated on Longshan Mountain in the northeast of Xinshao County, Yupingding is said to be as high as Mount Heng of Nanyue (Southern Sacred Mountain), and the mountaintop is often covered by sea of clouds, hence the name “Yuping Summit.” This mountain boasts majestic presence, with layers of verdant peaks and rugged cliffs. To the north are Lion Rock and Immortal Rock, while Zengji Ridge unfolds with crimson cliffs, where white clouds caress the summit; in front of Feishui Cave, a silver waterfall hangs in midair, cascading like flying snow and blossoms. To the south are Yangqi Stockade and Ximao Ridge, with scenes such as Lion and Elephant Blocking the Water. To the west are features like Crow Pond, Cat Cave, and Azure Dragon Bridge, each with their own unique charm. The Qing Dynasty scholar Yan Zhiwang composed a poem titled “Climbing Yupingding”: “Climbing straight up to the highest peak, / Where winding paths lead through ridges unique. / Twin streams cascade down the falling falls, / Amidst a sea of clouds veiling myriad peaks. / Like a roc, men soar through the sky so high, / While monks dwell in mist 'neath the mundane sky. / Looking back, the heavenly ladder's all passed through, / Only when reaching the gate does noon come into view.”
