Bison Valley

Bison Valley is located east of Galabo Village Committee, Cika Town, Gongshan County. A unique wooden bridge spans the Galabo River. Due to the differing elevations on either bank, local residents built a makeshift “厂”-shaped bridge using dragon bamboo—on the lower side, it’s shaped like a ladder, while on the higher side, wooden planks serve as the bridge deck. As you walk across, it creaks and groans, and looking down, you see the water continuously crashing against the rocks. Gazing quietly, the bridge even seems to float. Leaving Yichangduo, you enter the real Bison Valley, where the scenery on both banks becomes even more spectacular. On the mountain ridges, rows of steep cliffs and precipices stand like they’ve been carved with an axe, with stone monkeys, stone pillars, and stone stalagmites that are a feast for the eyes. Going further in, you’ll encounter another group of rock peaks, among which a central stone pillar stands out. It resembles a gorilla climbing onto a tree stump, gazing at the distant landscape, as if also welcoming visitors to Bison Valley. Looking north, a majestic snow-capped mountain stands proudly. On both sides of the mountain are blue skies, but only the snow mountain is shrouded in mist. Beneath its snow-white peak stand two large rock formations—the taller one resembles the hull of a boat or a person with a bun on their head, while the shorter one looks like a gorilla. Behind these two large rock formations lies a lake about 20 acres in size, called Donggeiga Lake. The snow-covered Pudu Mountain rises like Japan’s Mount Fuji into the blue sky. The surrounding peaks complement it to form a flat, golden ingot lying quietly in the valley, with a few clouds lingering above, hesitant to disperse. Legend has it that someone once mined gold here, which is why the mountain is named Pudu, meaning “place where gold is dug.” Here, the blue skies, white clouds, green mountains, and white snow create the most beautiful scenery in Bison Valley. Descending into the valley, a massive glacier lies before your eyes. A waterfall cascading from the sky and a murmuring stream form the source of the Galabo River. The slopes and streambanks are covered with yellow rhododendrons. The rhododendrons vary in height—some hug the ground, with flowers larger than their leaves. Even more astonishing is the dense bamboo forest, where herds of tall wild buffalo graze nonchalantly, munching with soft “whooshing” sounds. There is tranquility in motion and motion in tranquility. Nature here is so harmonious and perfect, filling the heart with joy.
