San Guillermo National Park
San Guillermo National Park is situated in the northwest of San Juan Province. Established in 1998, it spans 160,000 hectares and was created to protect the wildlife in this region. This area is home to one of the largest concentrations of wild guanacos and vicuñas in Argentina, making it a crucial site for conservation.

The park features vast stretches of shrubland that form endless grasslands, providing ideal conditions for the breeding and survival of guanacos and vicuñas. Since the establishment of the park, under strict management, the wild guanaco population has grown significantly, reaching around 7,000 individuals, while the vicuña population now stands at about 5,000. As a result, it has become a must-visit destination in Argentina to witness some of the country’s most iconic wildlife. In addition to guanacos and vicuñas, visitors may also spot red foxes, small lizards, Andean condors, and more.

Visitors should be aware that the park is arid and cold, with heavy snowfall and strong winds occurring in winter. As such, the park is closed to visitors during the winter season.
