The city was founded by Spanish conquistadors in 1565 and relocated to its current site in 1685. Today, it stands as the most important city in northern Argentina.

      For many years, San Miguel de Tucumán has been one of Argentina’s most prominent cultural hubs and the birthplace of numerous notable figures, including the famous singer Mercedes Sosa, Argentine journalist and writer Tomás Eloy Martínez, and celebrated pianist Miguel Ángel Estrella.
