Victoria Botanical Gardens
The Victoria Botanical Gardens (Victoria Botanical Gardens), also referred to as the Mont Fleuri Botanical Gardens of Seychelles, were established in 1901 by Mr. Paul Evenor Rivalz Dupont, the then Director of the Seychelles Agricultural and Natural Services Department. Today, the gardens are managed by the Seychelles Ministry of Environment, which oversees their operation, including the introduction and cultivation of new plant species.

The Victoria Botanical Gardens is a major attraction in Victoria. It houses a variety of rare and unique plants from the Seychelles archipelago, including over 80 plant species found nowhere else in the world—such as tall hardwood trees, white phoenix-like orchids, unusual pitcher plants, the extremely rare jellyfish tree, and the national treasure of Seychelles, the coco de mer palm. Among them, the phoenix-like orchid has been designated as the national flower, and since 1971, it has been illegal to take it out of the country. The gardens also host several rare animals for visitors to observe, such as giant tortoises brought from Aldabra Atoll and the Seychelles’ endemic flying foxes with orange chests. Nature and animal lovers will be in for a real treat here.
