      Praslin Island is the second largest island of Seychelles. Situated in the central-western Indian Ocean at 4°20′ south latitude and 55°45′ east longitude, it is located 48 kilometers southwest of Victoria. The island is 11 kilometers long and 8 kilometers wide, covering an area of 40.4 square kilometers. It had a population of 4,600 in 1985. As a granite island, it features rugged terrain with the highest peak reaching an elevation of 427 meters. The local inhabitants are engaged in agriculture and fishing, producing copra and vanilla, among other products. The island is renowned for its unique coco de mer palm trees. The scenic valleys in the central part of the island are rich in rare flora and fauna, making it a popular tourist destination.
