Seychelles Bird Island
A well-deserved haven for birds, home to 1.5 million diverse avian species that are the true rulers here. Watching them fly freely in the sky may inspire you to imagine growing a pair of wings. Seychelles Bird Island (Bird Island) is privately owned by a British couple and is located in the far northern part of the Seychelles archipelago. It’s a small island surrounded by crystal-clear waters and covered with coconut groves. The island is abundant in tropical plants, providing a natural habitat for several rare bird species—hence its name. There are 12 unique bird species on Seychelles Bird Island, where thousands of white-crowned pigeons and terns nest and breed. Its nature reserve has been listed as a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site. The island is very small, about the size of seven or eight football fields. From May to October each year, nearly 3 million sooty terns come here to breed—just imagine the sight of birds filling the sky.
