Shi Xingxing
Standing by the roadside in Migou Village, Puladi Township, on clear evenings when looking toward the Gaoligong Mountains, there is a fortress-like peak with independent small hills on either side, resembling sentinels guarding the fortress. In the middle of the fortress is a transparent little hole, like an observation slit or a shimmering “star” that shifts in brightness as you move until the stars appear in the sky, when it finally fades away. Locals call it “Shi Xingxing” (Stone Star). Climb up the hill behind Migou Village and look east, and you’ll see an enormous bodhisattva appearing before you. The seat of the Puladi Township government happens to lie right in the bodhisattva’s embrace — this is the origin of the name Puladi, meaning “the place where the bodhisattva resides.”
