Built between 1802 and 1804 to replace the former fortifications in this area, the central canal of Königsallee is 31 meters wide and 5 meters deep, with two wooden bridges crossing over it. Following the advice of landscape architect Maximilian Friedrich Weyhe, trees were planted along the boulevard, originally naming it “Chestnut Avenue.” In 1848, following an incident where King Frederick William IV of Prussia was pelted with horse manure, the street was renamed “Königsallee” as a goodwill gesture.
Along both sides of the canal, various high-end retail shops offer goods ranging from fur coats to premium electronics. Notable brands such as Cartier, Gucci, Armani, Chanel, and Prada all have stores here—shopping enthusiasts should definitely not miss this spot.
