Tang-Tibet Ancient Road

Tang-Tibet Ancient Road
Introduction      The Tang-Tibet Ancient Road was a major transportation route between the Tang Dynasty and the Tibetan Empire. It is one of the most renowned roads in ancient Chinese history and served as the essential passage from the Central Plains to Qinghai, Tibet, and even Nepal and India since the Tang Dynasty. The famous Princess Wencheng’s marriage journey to the Tibetan king Songtsen Gampo took this very road. It has existed and remained accessible for over 1,300 years.

Yushu has long been a vital junction connecting Tibet, Sichuan, and Xining, making it an unavoidable stop along the Tang-Tibet Ancient Road. The region centers around ancient paths and trade routes, lined with diverse and breathtaking historical sites and local customs. Traveling along this road allows you to experience the magnificent plateau scenery and the mystical sources of major rivers, with the millennia-old rock carvings in Beigou being especially captivating.
