Eberbach Abbey
Eberbach Abbey is located in Germany’s picturesque Rheingau Valley region, surrounded by lush greenery and rolling vineyards, making it one of the most beautiful monasteries in Germany, and even all of Europe. Since Benedictine monks built Eberbach Abbey here in 1136, the monks' way of life has influenced the region's culture, thought, and architectural style. The impressive Romanesque and early Gothic architecture within the abbey is considered one of the most important architectural heritage sites in Hesse.

Today, the site is managed by the Eberbach Abbey Foundation. While preserving traditional culture and historic buildings, it also hosts a variety of cultural events that bring the timeless charm of ancient traditions to life. The abbey hosts numerous elegant concerts each year and serves as one of the main performance venues for the Rheingau Music Festival. Visitors can explore the grand abbey church, the underground wine cellars housing countless fine wines, and the monks’ dining hall, which was used as a filming location for the movie “The Name of the Rose.” Wine enthusiasts can find some of the finest wines from the Rheingau region at the retail shop of the Hessian State Winery located within the abbey.
