Tomb of Xue Rengui’s Regalia
Located at the summit of Huimian Mountain, 5 kilometers south of Xiangzhou County in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and 77 kilometers from Liuzhou City, this tomb is a culturally valuable tourist attraction. The tomb, oriented south to north, bears a memorial stele inscribed with “Tomb of the Regalia of Xue Rengui, Great General of the Tang Dynasty.” Today, the stele has been destroyed, leaving only the burial mound. Xue Rengui was from Longmen, Jiangzhou (present-day Hejin, Shanxi). Born in the 20th year of the Daye era of the Sui Dynasty (614 AD), he joined the military under Emperor Taizong of Tang during the latter's campaign against Liaodong in the final years of the Zhenguan era due to his outstanding military achievements and was later promoted to the rank of General of the Right Weiwei Guard. In 675 AD, due to military setbacks and other reasons, Xue Rengui was exiled to Xiangzhou. During his time in Xiangzhou, he did many good deeds for the local people and earned their deep affection. When Emperor Gaozong of Tang ascended the throne and issued a general amnesty, Xue Rengui was pardoned and allowed to return home. Before his departure, he left behind the white robe and helmet he usually wore as mementos. In 683, Xue Rengui passed away. Upon hearing the news, the locals built a temple in the northern street of the county seat where they placed the white robe he had left behind, calling it the “White Robe Temple.” Later, the residents constructed a tomb and erected a stele on the summit of Huimian Mountain, placing the white robe and helmet inside the tomb in his memory.
