      The great Neo-Confucian scholar Zhu Xi moved to northern Fujian at the age of 15 and lived in the Chong’an area (now Wuyishan City). Having spent over forty years near Mount Wuyi, the area came to be regarded as the birthplace of Zhu Xi’s philosophy of Neo-Confucianism. Zhu Xi once wrote “Song of the Nine Bend River,” vividly depicting the scenery of the Nine Bend Stream of Mount Wuyi;

       Zhu Xi’s former residence, Ziyang Tower, is located in Fucun Village, Wufu Town. It features a Half-Mu Square Pond, the Lingquan Ancient Well, and the Zhu Zi Camphor Tree (said to have been planted by Zhu Xi himself). Nearby, there are also historic sites such as Zhu Zi Lane, Xingxian Academy, Xingxian Ancient Street, and Zhu Zi Shecang (a granary established by Zhu Xi for famine relief);

  Zhu Xi (1130~1200)  Zhu Xi, courtesy name Yuanhui, later changed to Zhonghui, also known as Huian and nicknamed Ziyang, was born in Youxi, Fujian, to a family originally from Wuyuan, Jiangxi. His father, Zhu Song, served as the magistrate of Youxi County during the fifth year of the Xuanhe era (1123) of the Song Dynasty and settled in the Shuinan residence of Zheng Andao after his term ended. On September 15 of the fourth year of the Jianyan era (1130), Zhu Xi was born. From a young age, Zhu Xi was intelligent and studious. At the age of 7, he moved with his parents to Jianzhou (now Jian’ou, Fujian). At 14, following his father’s dying wish, he went to live with his father’s friends Hu Xian and Liu Mianzhi in Chong’an County. Hu and Liu treated Zhu Xi like their own nephew, arranged his living situation, and provided him with warm guidance. Liu Mianzhi even married his daughter to Zhu Xi.
