Lion Awakening Cave

　　    Lion Awakening Cave is one of the Eight Scenic Spots of Jianshi, known as "Stone Cave Reaching the Sky." It is located at the foot of Chaoyangguan Mountain and is said to be the place where Master Yufeng practiced alchemy. The great poet of the Song Dynasty, Huang Tingjian, wrote a poem that says: “Ancient trees rustle in the wind at the cave’s mouth; once people escaped their cages here. In front of the cliff, there’s also a trickle of water—perfect for cleansing the dust from one’s heart and following the hermit’s path.” On the left wall at the entrance of Shitong Cave, three large characters “Lion Awakening Cave” were inscribed by the elder Shi Ying. On the upper cliff walls inside the cave, verses by literati from various dynasties are carved and can still be faintly seen.
