Dangka Monastery

Introduction      Dangka Monastery is situated on the mountainside of Zhazeng Dasai in Dongfeng Brigade, Jiegu Town, Yushu County, at an altitude of 3,600 meters. It is a monastery of the Karma Kagyu sect. With a long history and rich cultural relics, especially after 1981, the monastery has seen rapid restoration and significant development. Its structures such as the scripture hall have far exceeded their pre-liberation scale. The monastery, built along the mountain, presents a majestic and spectacular appearance.

The monastery currently houses one large scripture hall with 80 pillars and one small scripture hall with 20 pillars. It also includes Buddha halls, the Dharmapala Hall, the preaching courtyard, and over 100 monk dormitories. In addition, the monastery enshrines statues of Shakyamuni Buddha, Guru Rinpoche, as well as founders of the Kagyu sect such as Tilopa, Naropa, Marpa, and Milarepa, plus the goddess Ani A-shi Chos-skyid-drö-ma. The “Ani Goddess” offering ceremony is held annually from November 23 to 30, and the Tenth Day Guru Yoga Ceremony takes place from June 1 to 10.
