Longzui Gorge

Longzui Gorge is where the You River meets the Xin Gorge River and the Lao Gorge River, and it is also an important part of the “String of Pearls Along the You River” scenic area. The “Narrow Pass” lives up to its name — it is the narrowest section of the You River, hailed as the “Throat of the 900-Li You River.” In the dry season, the river is only a few meters wide, so narrow that one could easily leap across with a pole vault, earning it the nickname “The Second Hukou of the Yellow River.” The “Lovers’ Island” sparks endless imagination — this is a natural island in the You River, shaped like a crescent moon, covered in birdsong and blossoms, with pavilions and towers dotting its landscape. Legend has it that it was a meeting place for Tujia girls and their sweethearts. The “Fairy Cave” is located halfway up the mountainside of Longzui Gorge, hundreds of meters from the mountaintop above and the You River below, set against steep cliffs and offering a truly precipitous view. Inside the cave, alternating Danxia stone and limestone formations have created a variety of uniquely shaped and spectacular stalactite wonders.
