The museum has three exhibition halls. The main hall’s permanent small exhibition showcases salmon fishing techniques and information about boat rentals on Lake Taupo for professional fishing enthusiasts. There is also an Early Settlers Exhibition, displaying images and photos of the early settlers, while the Māori Exhibition features many precious Māori carvings and replica cultural artifacts. In the museum’s courtyard, there is a tranquil Aroha Garden, which includes whimsical and expressive carvings, as well as over 1,000 native plants. In the 2004 Chelsea Flower Show, the garden was honored as the “100% Pure New Zealand Aroha Garden,” providing visitors with a relaxing leisure space.
The Taupo Museum & Art Gallery is open daily from 10:00 AM to 4:30 PM, year-round except for Christmas Day and Good Friday.
