Bvumba Mountains
The Bvumba Mountains are situated at the border between Zimbabwe and Mozambique, approximately 25 kilometers south of Mutare, standing at an altitude of 1,911 meters. They are primarily composed of granite and, along with Mount Chimanimani and Mount Inyangani, form the eastern highlands of the Zimbabwe-Mozambique border. Often referred to as the “Mountains of the Mist,” the range is frequently shrouded in mystical morning fog that gradually lifts by midday.

Although most of the Bvumba Mountains lie within Zimbabwe, they also extend into northeastern Mozambique. Towering green peaks are surrounded by countryside hotels, casinos, golf courses, botanical gardens, and local coffee plantations. For hiking enthusiasts, it’s an excellent destination. The lower slopes are often lightly misty, and the mountains are covered with diverse alpine flora, including proteas growing at higher altitudes. The stretch of the Bvumba Mountains that extends into Mozambique features steep hiking trails, and from the summit, one can enjoy panoramic views over Manica Province and the surrounding plains.
