      In 1946, the central government sent Liao Lianyuan, a native of Guigang, back to Guangxi to mobilize the masses, carry out guerrilla warfare, disrupt enemy rear lines, and support the combat operations of the Chinese People's Liberation Army on the front lines in preparation for the liberation of Guangxi. After returning to his hometown, Liao Lianyuan immediately launched revolutionary activities in villages such as Daka, Zhongli, Qingfeng, and Miancun in Guixian County, establishing party and youth league organizations, poor and hired peasant groups, and anti–“Three Levies” groups. On September 29, 1947, he announced the establishment of the “Chinese People’s Liberation Army Daka Column” and led an armed uprising. Since that day happened to be the Mid-Autumn Festival, it came to be known as the “Mid-Autumn Uprising.”

  Liao Lianyuan       Liao Lianyuan, also known as Shigang, was born in November 1912 in Qishi Township, Guixian County, and was of Zhuang ethnicity. He joined the Chinese Communist Party in November 1936.     At the end of 1937, after graduating from Guilin High School, he was sent by the Party organization to study at the Anti-Japanese Military and Political University in Yan’an. He served as a cadre and special agent in the Security Department of the Shaan-Gan-Ning Border Region Government, as a researcher at the Yan’an Marxist-Leninist Institute and the Central Research Institute, and as the Party Branch Secretary of the Third Department of the Central Party School. In May 1945, he was dispatched from Yan’an to develop new guerrilla zones in Guangxi. He joined the Second Cadre Brigade of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army’s Southern Advance Unit, serving as the publicity officer of the Party Branch, the Deputy Secretary of the Zhaobo County Committee of the Central Lunan, and the political commissar of the county brigade.
