Kakum National Park
Kakum National Park is a national park in Ghana, situated in the Central Region, 30 kilometers north of Cape Coast, and spans 375 square kilometers. Established in 1960, the entire park is covered by tropical rainforest, including its entrance. The park was created to protect the region’s tropical rainforest and its diverse flora and fauna. It is home to many rare animals, including the Mona monkey, pygmy elephants, African buffaloes, civets, as well as over 300 species of birds and more than 500 species of butterflies.

To effectively protect the rainforest while allowing visitors access, a 131-foot-high canopy walkway was constructed in the mid-1990s. This swaying elevated walkway, suspended among the treetops, connects the upper levels of the forest canopy. The walkway stands 40 meters above the ground, consists of seven suspension bridges, and stretches 330 meters in total. The biggest sensation while walking across it is the constant trembling, and looking down can be a bit frightening. However, the feeling upon successfully completing the 330-meter canopy walk is one of excitement, thrill, and an urge to do it all over again.
