Wanyuan Red Army Park

　　Wanyuan City was an important area of the Sichuan-Shaanxi Soviet during the Second Revolutionary Civil War and is known as the “Red Wanyuan.” In December 1932, Red Army generals such as Xu Xiangqian, Li Xiannian, and Xu Shiyou fought in what is known as the “Longest, Largest, Most Arduous, and Most Glorious” battle in the history of the Fourth Red Army — the “Battle of Wanyuan Defense.” This battle created many moving and heroic war legends: Xu Shiyou’s bloody fight at Daimianshan, shaking the military annals; Zhang Caiqian’s fierce battle at Xuannuzu Hall, where new recruits defeated a powerful enemy; Li Xiannian holding back the enemy at Hu’e Mountain, his great achievements shining through the ages; and Xu Xiangqian’s night raid on Qinglongguan, sweeping away thousands of enemy troops like bamboo. To commemorate the glorious victory of the Battle of Wanyuan Defense, construction of the Battle of Wanyuan Defense History Exhibition Hall began in January 1984. The then General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee - Bang inscribed the name of the hall, and leaders of the Party and the state including Xu Xiangqian, Li Xiannian, Xu Shiyou, and Zhang Aiping wrote inscriptions. The hall is located in the Red Army Park on Houshan Slope in the northern part of the city, 1 kilometer from the urban area, covering an area of over 20 acres, with a building area of 2,500 m². It is designed in a garden style and laid out in two sets of quadrangle courtyards. The architecture is exquisite, the shape is beautiful, and it has four exhibition rooms with an exhibition line of 170 meters. The museum houses 1,238 revolutionary relics, including 2 national first-class relics, 15 second-class relics, 90 third-class relics, and more than 1,000 documentary relics. In June 2001, it was named a “National Patriotic Education Demonstration Base” by the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee. At the end of 2004, it was included in the “National 100 Classic Red Tourism Scenic Spots” by six national ministries. In December 2014, the Red Army Park was rated as a National AAA-level Tourist Attraction, attracting a large number of visitors for sightseeing and paying tribute, receiving over 3 million domestic and international tourists.
