After entering the temple gate, walk up the stone steps passing through Buyun Pavilion, Lianjing Pavilion, and the Bell Tower, and you will see Shoushou Temple nestled in the lush green mountains.
Shoushou Temple was first built in the early Tang Dynasty. In those days, it was described as having “flying springs amid misty dreams, bizarre rocks reaching into the clouds and water, ancient withered pine roots left behind, and moss-green urn pagodas.” Due to its tranquil surroundings, eminent scholars such as Song Lian and Fang Xiaoru often came here to write and lecture. Over the years, the temple has been destroyed and rebuilt many times.
The current temple complex was reconstructed in recent years. The only historical relics remaining in the temple are the Yuan Dynasty Shoushou Temple stele, stone arhat statues, stone pagoda pedestal, and White Milk Spring. However, the ancient podocarpus tree behind the temple that died and came back to life is truly a marvel.
