The Clutha River is the largest river in New Zealand by water volume and the country’s second-longest. Balclutha’s location along the river provides a variety of recreational activities, including fishing, water skiing, and boating. The town’s most photogenic structure is the Balclutha Road Bridge, which spans the Clutha River. Built in 1935, it facilitates travel between the two sides of the river. In addition, the area around the town boasts other fascinating natural attractions, such as Matai Falls and the tranquil Lake Tuakitoto.
