The Ancestral Hall of the Yao Clan
The Ancestral Hall of the Yao Clan in Maojian Village, Maoba Town was constructed in 1883, taking five years to complete and was finished in 1889. It was built through the united efforts and financial contributions of the entire Yao clan. In December 2002, it was designated as part of the sixth batch of Provincial-Level Cultural Relics Protection Units by Sichuan Province (Document No. Chuan Fu Fa [2002] No. 23). The hall faces from southeast to northwest and features a traditional quadrangle courtyard layout. Constructed with a brick-and-wood structure, it covers an area of 813 square meters and consists of five main parts: the memorial archway, theater stage, inner courtyard, main hall, and left and right wing rooms. The entire ancestral hall is designed around the theme of “Pufan’s Lasting Legacy,” symbolizing the spirit of Emperor Shun and his virtue that moved heaven and earth. Its purpose is to celebrate the great achievements of Emperor Shun and his distinguished descendants, and to educate clan members to abide by family and clan rules, love the motherland and its people, prioritize filial piety, uphold farming and scholarship, maintain unity within the clan, respect the elderly and care for the young, show mutual concern, live upright lives, uphold justice, suppress evil and promote good, and avoid unnecessary disputes.
