The Old Mosque of Isfahan
The ancient mosque is situated in Isfahan, Iran. As a scenic attraction, this historic mosque was constructed in the 17th century and is considered one of the greatest buildings in the world because of its grand and splendid architecture. Both the interior and exterior of the mosque are adorned with exquisite tilework, and its gate is silver-plated. The main entrance stands 30 meters high and is inscribed with numerous poetic verses, masterfully written in the beautiful Persian Nastaliq script by renowned calligraphers of the time. The walls also feature murals and decorations that reflect the highest levels of art and culture of the era. The deep blue mosaic tiles shine brilliantly in the sunlight, creating a majestic and magnificent effect. Covering an area of 17,000 square meters, the mosque's central dome features minarets that directly face the holy city of Mecca. The large dome on the southern side of the mosque reaches 54 meters in height, with its main sections either gilded or silver-plated, creating a dazzling and resplendent sight. The “Seven Tones Hall” and the marble sundial beneath the southwestern wall of the hall represent outstanding achievements of ancient Persian science. If you clap your hands on the echo stone located directly opposite the dome, you can hear multiple loud echoes. The further you are from the center of the dome, the weaker the echo becomes. On either side of the large dome, there are two minarets, each 43 meters tall. Inside the mosque, there is a triangular sundial used by people at the time to measure time. Best Time to Visit The ancient mosque experiences dry weather with little rainfall and significant temperature variations between seasons. The best time to visit is during spring and autumn.
