Tiantong Candle

　　Introduction       Tiantong Candle is located behind Chunwan Town. It is a stone pillar standing in a lake, named for its resemblance to a giant candle. There is a touching story behind this giant candle: It is said that although Chunwan was once picturesque with green mountains and clear waters, it was overrun by pests and rodents, causing many local families to suffer from disease and even lose their homes. A deity disguised as an old beggar came to the village. A filial son warmly welcomed him, and moved by the son’s sincerity, the deity gave him a miraculous medicine to save the critically ill villagers. The deity also bestowed a long-burning candle and instructed the son to light it to drive away the disease-carrying pests. The filial son followed the instructions, and when the candle was lit, moths and insects were drawn to the flame and perished, eliminating the plague.
