Located to the south of Daxiangcheng Village in Zhangfan Town, the highest peak is Zhai Mountain, with an elevation of 358.9 meters. This mountain was originally called “Old Imperial Cliff,” also known as “Imperial Cliff Mountain Fortress” (named after the legend that Zhu Yuanzhang, the founding emperor of the Ming Dynasty, once begged for food and lived in the Chaoyang Cave halfway up the mountain as a child). The summit of Zhai Mountain is flat and the ground is spacious, with remnants of ancient fortress walls, artillery emplacements, and stone houses among the ruins of historic architecture. It offers the best vantage point for viewing Weishan Lake and Niangniang Tomb, and is the main area of development and construction for Yangyu Scenic Area. The mountain is covered with massive, peculiar, and strange rocks; countless stone sheds, caves, and pillars dot the landscape. Among the clustered peaks, bare rocks and uniquely shaped stones stand in great numbers, forming a breathtaking, otherworldly geological landscape reminiscent of a “stone forest in a dry sea.” Major attractions include the General’s Platform, Old Spring, Chaoyang Cave, and Lying Sheep Beach.
