Devils Marbles Conservation Reserve
The Devils Marbles Conservation Reserve is situated in the southern part of Australia’s Northern Territory. Established in 1961, it spans 18 square kilometers and is famous worldwide for its naturally piled, giant spherical rocks.

The reserve features massive boulders about 4 meters high and 13 to 33 meters wide, formed through millions of years of weathering. According to local Aboriginal legend, these are the eggs of the Rainbow Serpent, a powerful being from the Dreamtime. The boulder field stretches approximately one kilometer, with the rocks stacked in seemingly impossible formations, some balanced on just a few contact points. The high iron content in parts of Australia gives the stones a reddish-ochre hue, while the marble composition leaves faint veins on their surfaces, making them appear strikingly red during sunrise or sunset. It is said that ongoing weathering will gradually reduce these giant rocks to smaller stones.

Visitors can climb on the boulders, explore the nearby bushland, or enjoy a picnic outdoors. The area around the Devils Marbles Conservation Reserve is also home to a variety of wildlife, including kangaroos, snakes, dingoes, and emus.
