Zhongba Grand Canyon is located on the southern bank of the Han River within Shiquan County, Shaanxi Province, 20 kilometers from the county town, 60 kilometers from the Xi’an–Hanzhong Expressway, and 100 kilometers from Ankang City. The highway leads directly to the scenic area. It is a recently discovered eco-friendly natural scenery tourism destination. The canyon boasts beautiful scenery, a unique style, and picturesque landscapes. It features characteristics such as being narrow, long, elegant, peculiar, clear, serene, wild, mystical, perilous, and quiet, integrating natural sights such as peaks, rocks, caves, forests, birds, beasts, springs, pools, and waterfalls. The scenery changes at every step, presenting a myriad of views.

The total length of the canyon scenery spans over ten kilometers, consisting of five major scenic areas — the Grand Canyon, the Small Canyon, Niuxin Gorge, Longdong Cave, and Huangcunba Countryside — and more than a hundred scenic spots.

The Grand Canyon is seven kilometers long. The entire canyon is a slot canyon, with the widest point only ten meters across. It twists and turns endlessly, with paths winding like a serpent. The rock walls on both sides are layered, with a vertical height of a thousand meters, densely forested, and in many places, the sky is not visible overhead. There is the Precipice Cliff, standing sheer and tall for over a thousand meters; the vividly shaped Hawk Rock; the knife-edge like Eagle Beak Peak; and other attractions such as **Waist Gorge.

The Small Canyon is less than a meter wide. The terrain inside the gorge is high and precipitous, with rapid currents, uniquely shaped rocks, spectacular peaks, and beautiful waterfalls. The dangerous cliffs are mostly steep, and the river cascades down several times within just one kilometer. Niuxin Gorge offers a world of its own. Many of the rock formations resemble animals or objects, displaying a variety of postures. Some look like turtles, some like rabbits, and some like melons. Scattered throughout the gorge are numerous naturally formed, oddly shaped rocks of varying sizes and layers, such as Niuxin Stone, Lianxin Stone, Immortal Stone, all exquisitely crafted and incredibly lifelike.

The most mysterious aspect is the source of the canyon’s water, which flows out from three caves named Qinglong Cave, Huanglong Cave, and Malongdong. The flowing springs and waterfalls are graceful and charming, cascading down like silver ribbons or spreading across the sky like silver sheets, embedded in the narrow canyon like emerald pearls, creating an overwhelming, delightful sight.

The land shapes its people. At the end of the canyon lies Huangcunba Village, a peach-blossom-like hamlet embraced by steep mountains and surrounded by hundreds of acres of flat farmland. The village has over four hundred ancient ginkgo trees, the largest of which can be encircled by seven people and is over 1,100 years old, while the smaller ones still require a person’s arms to hug. Far from the hustle and bustle of the city, it preserves primitive modes of production and living, offering a peaceful, pure, and soul-cleansing serene place. Visitors here can find fulfillment, transcendence, and catch the distant fragrance of ancient times.

The canyon spans over ten square kilometers, featuring peculiar mountains, perilous peaks, crisscrossing streams, chirping birds, and murmuring waters. Upon entering the mouth of the gorge, a bottomless lake reflects the verdant peaks, like a piece of translucent blue jade embedded between the cliffs. The crisp sound of flowing water mingles with the pleasant chirping of birds, echoing through the landscape and forming a earthly paradise. Zhongba Canyon is known for its serenity, peculiarity, peril, and tranquility. Among its most famous attractions are Eagle Beak Cliff, Sheepfold Cliff, Prince Cave, and Tiankeng.
