Ruins of Yubi City (Fourth Batch Provincial-Level Protected Site)
Era: Northern Dynasties
Address: Around Bajiazhuang Village, Taiyang Township, Jishan County
Yubi City is situated on the southern bank of the Fen River. During the Northern Dynasties, it lay on the border between the Northern Zhou and Northern Qi, making it a strategically vital location and a fiercely contested military site throughout history. It is one of China’s renowned ancient battlefields. The city was first built in the fourth year of the Datong era of the Western Wei Dynasty (538 AD), and in the second year of the Baoding era of the Northern Zhou Dynasty (562 AD), the Xunzhou Prefecture was established here. By the sixth year of the JianDe era of Emperor Wu of the Northern Zhou (577 AD), the city had fallen into disuse. In ancient times, a major north-south thoroughfare passed through the city, which was surrounded by steep cliffs on the west, north, and east sides. The ancient city ruins measure 420 meters in length from east to west and 500 meters in width from north to south, with remnants of the southern city wall standing 0.8 to 3 meters high.
