The Ming Great Wall at Dawukou
Introduction Also known as the Border Defense North Gate Pass Wall, this section of the Great Wall was built in the tenth year of the Jiajing reign (1531 AD). It was approved by the imperial court upon the recommendation of Wang Qiong, Minister of War, and supervised by Qi Zhiluan, an official in charge. Stretching from Zao’ergou in the Helan Mountains in the west to the banks of the Yellow River in the east, the wall was approximately fifty li in length. Remnants can still be found near present-day Dawukou Village and to the east of Mingshui Lake Farm, extending to the area around the railway. Elsewhere, the wall has been transformed into farmland or roads and no longer exists.
