The First Cellar Ancient Cellar Site is located within the Xinjiang First Cellar Ancient City Winery Company in Qitai County. In 2002, the company discovered this site during excavation work for a wine cellar. Subsequently, the site was excavated and preserved. Currently, only one brick wall remains at the cellar site. It is constructed from blue bricks and coated with a layer of white lime. The wall stretches 11.8 meters in length and stands 2.1 meters high, and can be divided into two sections of roughly equal length. The northern section is more finely crafted, featuring slots every 1.2 meters for securing wooden boards—presumably used to partition fermentation pits. The slots are spaced 1.2 meters apart, and there are also footholds on two of the walls, likely used for climbing. The southern section is more roughly built, with a less smooth wall surface, seemingly added later and dating to a slightly later period than the northern part. There are remnants of two partition walls on the southern wall, which are also believed to have been used to divide fermentation pits.
Based on artifacts unearthed at the site, such as blue-and-white porcelain bowls and earthenware bowls, it is inferred that the site was built in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties and remained in use throughout the Qing Dynasty. A wine history museum has now been established on the site of the ancient cellar.
