Kangjian Park
Bordered by Liuzhou Road to the east, Guanshengyuan Road to the south, Guilin Road to the west, and Caohejing Port to the north, Kangjian Park covers an area of 95,700 square meters. Originally a privately-owned amusement park-style farm called Kangjian Farm, it was established in 1937 by Shanghai magician Bao Qinxuan (stage name Keyingtianying), who raised the funds for its construction. The park opened to the public on April 1, 1953, and was operated as a public-private joint venture under the name “Kangjian Farm” in 1956. It was officially named “Kangjian Park” in 1958. In September 1984, an agreement was reached between the Shanghai Science and Technology Association and the Shanghai Municipal Gardening Bureau to transform the park into a facility primarily dedicated to promoting and popularizing scientific knowledge. A variety of entertaining rides were added, and on May 4, 1985, it was renamed “Science Popularization Park.” On January 1, 1990, it reverted to its original name, “Kangjian Park.” The park underwent two expansions, first in 1987 and then again in 2000.

The park features a Japanese-style architectural design and a garden-style green layout, with ponds formed in low-lying areas and hills built along ridges. Pavilions and terraces are scattered throughout in a well-balanced arrangement. The scenery is pleasant, with landscape elements complementing each other—boats glide gently on the lake, lush forests cover the hills, and clusters of stone bamboo shoots stand upright. Peony flowers bloom in rich splendor, cherry blossoms compete in brilliance, and lotus flowers float elegantly. Visitors can row boats across the shimmering waters or take rides around the hilly paths. Japanese-style cottages are also nestled within the park, adding a refined touch to the overall ambiance. The main floral highlights include lotus, cherry blossom, peony, and osmanthus. Other blooming plants such as magnolia, yulan magnolia, and crape myrtle ensure colorful flowers throughout all seasons. The century-old peonies in the park are thriving beautifully.
