The temple enshrines Kai Zhang Sheng Wang, also known as General Chen Yuanguang of the Tang Dynasty. Kai Zhang Sheng Wang was originally from Henan and was tasked in 686 AD with pacifying the Min and Yue regions, for which he was posthumously honored as Kai Zhang Sheng Wang.
At that time, local gentry from Keelung, including Bai Fan, Lian Xinyong of Youjitang, and Zi Yangchuan, purchased over ten hectares of land on Waimushan as temple property and built the temple with timber. Later, Lin Benyuan, a prominent family from Banqiao, donated land in present-day Wangtianli, Ren'ai District, and local gentry such as Zhang Jinfa and Lai Wu made donations, which received strong support from the community.
Upon entering the temple, you can see neatly arranged red stone pillars inscribed with couplets dedicated to the deities. The floral and bird-themed stone pillars in front of the main hall deity were built during the Japanese colonial period, reflecting the Japanese admiration for floral and avian motifs. The dragon pillars were constructed during World War II, showcasing the distinctive style of Chinese temples.
