Keelung Harbor

As you exit Keelung Railway Station, the first thing that comes into view is Keelung Harbor. The azure waters have been part of the lives of Keelung residents all year round. Pausing here allows you to enjoy the charm of the harbor and watch the regular arrivals of luxury passenger ships and cruise liners from around the world. It's the perfect spot for a heart-to-heart chat or to admire the night view.

The construction of Keelung Harbor began during the Japanese colonial period. At that time, the work was extremely difficult and arduous, resulting in the deaths of many workers. To commemorate them, a Monument to Workers Killed During Harbor Construction was erected, mainly honoring those who lost their lives during the construction of Pier 16 West between 1924 and 1928.

The Monument to Workers Killed During Harbor Construction is located on the hillside near Piers 3 and 4 of Keelung Harbor. The monument tells the story of the sweat and toil of the early pioneers who built the harbor area, and it still seems to stand guard over the harbor. The site of the monument also offers one of the best views of Keelung Harbor.

In addition to enjoying the sea breeze at Keelung Harbor and watching the bustling activity of ferries transporting cargo ships, there are many tourist attractions and historic sites nearby, such as Xian Dong Yan (Fairy Cave Rock), Shiqiuling Fort, Shiqiuling Tunnel, Eighteen Arhats Cave, Baimi Weng Fort, and Haimen Tianxian. These historic sites can be explored during the day, while at night you can head to Keelung Miaokou Night Market to sample local delicacies such as nutritious sandwiches, tempura, noodle soup, butter crab, oyster omelet, braised eel soup, eight-treasure glass noodles, sweet rice wine, bite-sized sausages, and marlin soup.
