The Shangguo City Site and Qiujiazhuang Tomb Cluster (Sixth Batch of National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units)
Era: Zhou to Han Dynasties
Location: On the Mingtiao Ridge, connecting Qiujiazhuang Village and Shangguo Village to the south of Wenxi County
The ancient city site of Shangguo is located in Shangguo Village. The northern wall of the ancient city was discovered 10 meters east of the village, with a remaining length of 500 meters, width of 7–8 meters, and height of 0.5–3.5 meters. The rammed earth layers are 7–15 centimeters thick. A 4–5 meter section of the western wall, with a remaining height of about 3 meters, is exposed 100 meters south of the village.
The Shangguo site stretches 5,000 meters from north to south and 1,500 meters from east to west, covering a total area of 7.5 million square meters. It is the site of the ancient city of Quwo from the Spring and Autumn Period. Tombs to the north of Shangguo Village date back to the Western and Eastern Zhou Dynasties. Artifacts unearthed at the site include bronze ware, pottery, and jade artifacts.
The Qiujiazhuang Tomb Cluster is located 100 meters north of Qiujiazhuang Village in Guanzhuang Township, Wenxi County. This Warring States and Han Dynasty tomb cluster spans 2,000 meters from east to west and 500 meters from north to south, distributed across the hills to the west and north of the village. Cliff exposures reveal numerous vertical earthen pit tombs and brick-chambered tombs. In 1973 and 1979, 15 vertical earthen pit tombs were excavated. Unearthed bronze items include tripods, dou (food vessels), hu (wine vessels), swords, and arrowheads. Jade items include cong (ritual tubes) and rings. Pottery items include tripods, dou, and hu, and the tomb cluster remains relatively well-preserved.
