Yudu Pagoda Park is situated beside National Highway 323 at the west gate of the county town, 60 kilometers from Ganzhou City. It serves as an ideal spot for visitors to climb to a height for panoramic views, admire the Gong River, and explore ancient Buddhist sites. Originally named “Huiming Temple Pagoda,” the pagoda was first built in the second year of the Zhihe era during the Song Dynasty (1055 AD) and underwent several restorations over time. It was rebuilt in the 13th year of the Jiajing era of the Ming Dynasty (1534 AD) and renamed “Chongguang Pagoda.” Known as the “Literary Peak of Yudu,” it has long been cherished by the local community. The pagoda was destroyed during the Cultural Revolution but was reconstructed through voluntary donations from residents in 2004 at a new location. The current pagoda stands 55.26 meters tall, featuring an octagonal structure that faces the wind, with seven tiers of double eaves, each level equipped with a gallery. On the single levels, there are four main gates aligned with the cardinal directions: Zi (North), Wu (Noon), Mao (East), and You (West). On the double levels, there are four corner gates corresponding to the intercardinal directions: Qian (Northwest), Kun (Southwest), Gen (Northeast), and Xun (Southeast). The spire consists of four levels cast in iron. The pagoda's base is octagonal, with a diameter of 12 meters. Its framework is a brick-concrete structure, faced with blue bricks, harmoniously colored in a style reminiscent of the Song Dynasty, making it a spectacular sight. The mighty Gong River meanders gracefully nearby, with verdant hills and competing peaks stretching into the distance—welcoming from the left, guarding from the right, arching forward, and bowing behind. From the evening of October 16 to 18, 1934, the 17,805 soldiers of the Red Third Army Corps, led by Peng Dehuai, crossed the Yudu River at the foot of the old Chongguang Pagoda and at the South Gate of the county town and the Mengkou Ferry in Lu’ao, commencing the world-renowned 25,000-li Long March. The park highlights solemn elegance, classic charm, and ecological harmony, offering activities such as climbing Chongguang Pagoda, enjoying the distant view of the Gong River, taking in the cityscape, engaging in religious worship, strolling through the forest, and admiring the pagoda at night.
