On the site of Shanghai Film Studio's 595 construction project, the Shanghai Film Group Building was erected as a testament to Shanghai cinema. The Shanghai Film Museum was also built here. With an investment of 900 million yuan and a total construction area exceeding 100,000 square meters, it is the largest film museum in China. It began trial operation in May 2013 and officially opened during the Shanghai International Film Festival in mid-June. The former site was the compound of the Shanghai Film Studio itself, which is a historical relic. The yellow building on the left originally belonged to the Holy Vestment Convent, a Catholic nunnery and monastery, built in 1874. In September 1933, it was purchased by Lianhua Film Company and rebuilt as Studio 3. Its address at the time was No. 3 Sanjiao Street. After the war, Kunlun Film Company and, in 1957, Haiyan Film Studio were both based here.
