Feng Yuxiang's former residence is situated in Baihe Village, Chenjiaqiao Town, Shapingba District, Chongqing. It was originally the residence of a local resident, Zhang Hainan, and was known at the time as the "Zhang Family Courtyard." During the War of Resistance against Japan, Feng Yuxiang, along with his wife Li Dequan and their children, lived and worked here for seven years.

The former residence was originally an ordinary late Qing Dynasty Ba-Yu style dwelling, covering a total area of 2,937.5 square meters. The structure is made of earth and wood, featuring a single-slope hanging gable roof, covered with small blue tiles, and supported by a post-and-lintel beam frame.

In 2000, Feng Yuxiang's former residence was designated by the Chongqing Municipal People's Government as one of the first municipal-level cultural heritage protection units after Chongqing became a municipality directly under the central government. The main restoration project of the residence was completed on August 31, 2003, and it officially opened to the public on December 6, 2003. He Luli, Vice Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress and Chairperson of the Central Committee of the Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang, personally inscribed the name of the museum.
