The kiln sites are primarily located in Nansheng and Wuzhai, two towns in Pinghe County. As Wuzhai was formerly part of Nansheng, the site is collectively referred to as the "Nansheng Kiln." The main products of the Nansheng Kiln were blue-and-white porcelain plates, along with bowls, saucers, bottles, cups, incense burners, jars, and more. Decorative patterns often featured aquatic plants, fish, birds, animals, flowers, and similar motifs, and some items even bore auspicious inscriptions.
During a cultural relics survey in the 1960s, ancient kiln sites were discovered in this area. Later, the Fujian Provincial Museum and the Pinghe County Museum conducted multiple follow-up investigations, identifying several kiln locations: Huazailou, Tiankeng, and Ouliao in Nansheng Town; and Dongkou, Huzai Mountain, Houxiang Bowl Kiln Mountain, Tianzhongyang, Longzai Mountain, Dalong, Erlong, -po, Nei Yao, and Saozhoujin in Wuzhai Township. Collected ceramic samples included blue-and-white porcelain, white porcelain, celadon, colored-glazed porcelain (such as soy sauce glaze, yellow glaze, and blue glaze), and painted porcelain (including polychrome and plain tri-color).
In 2006, the Nansheng Kiln Site, as an ancient relic from the Ming and Qing dynasties, was included in the sixth batch of Major National Historical and Cultural Sites by the State Council.
