Ruins of the Sanchakou Underground Transport Station

　　   According to Liu Yiquan, former bodyguard of Zhou Baozhong, the Sanchakou Underground Transport Station was located about two to three hundred meters inside the right-hand alley to the right of the bridgehead at the south end of Sanchakou town. Anti-Japanese generals such as Zhou Baozhong and Yang Song once operated here. After arriving in Sanchakou, Zhou Baozhong quickly made contact with Tang Shun, the liaison for the Dongning underground party organization. At that time, the Dongning underground party’s liaison point was the Sanchakou Library in the county town, whose director, Xie Zuochen, was also an underground party member. Therefore, the venue for this Party and Youth League congress was set here. At the meeting, Zhou Baozhong spoke on four issues: First, the current situation. Japanese imperialism is drawing ever closer to our heartland, yet the Nationalist government not only fails to resist but also suppresses the people’s anti-Japanese movement. Apart from surrender, they are utterly incapable of organizing resistance. This sacred task can only be taken up by the people themselves—we must immediately expand the anti-Japanese organizations, unite all anti-Japanese sectors, and take active action. Second, our underground Party and Youth League organizations should be dynamic, as well as strictly organized and iron-disciplined. Third, the Anti-Japanese Salvation Army may retreat toward Mishan and Hulin areas; comrades Li Shuping and Guo Ziyuan will remain behind to expand the anti-Japanese struggle in enemy-occupied territory. Fourth, efforts should be made to develop underground work within the Laoheshan Coal Mine in Dongning County.

　　   After arriving in Dongning, Yang Song was introduced to the Sanchakou Underground Transport Station by underground party member Bi Shao Tang. Disguised as a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner, Yang Song carried out Party activities, operating between the Soviet Union and Mudanjiang.
