Battle Site of Qishierdaodingzi

The Battle Site of Qishierdaodingzi is situated at the junction of Wanbaowan Forest Farm and Wangqing County in Jilin Province, about 80 kilometers from Dongning. On May 8, 1945, under the leadership of Stalin, the Soviet people defeated fascist Germany, leading to significant global changes. Especially in China, the War of Resistance Against Japan, under the wise leadership of the Communist Party of China, entered a strategic stage. Japanese forces were surrounded by the People’s Army, suffering defeats on the Pacific battlefield and facing a comprehensive national crisis—all of which foretold their inevitable downfall. Following the Yalta Conference, the Soviet Union began transporting weapons and military supplies to the Far East. On the afternoon of August 8, Soviet air forces launched airstrikes on Dongning Town and Miaogou where Japanese troops were stationed, followed by artillery fire in the evening. On August 10, they captured Dongning. At 17:00 on the same day, the 17th Army of the 5th Army Group was ordered to come under the command of the 25th Army Group. The main forces of the two armies advanced toward Laoheshan, after which the 10th Mechanized Army followed the 17th and 39th Armies along a highway into the Laoheshan area. South of Wanbaowan, the forces split into two routes: the 17th Army and the 10th Mechanized Army moved via Qishierdaodingzi, Luozigou, and Daxinggou toward Wangqing. On August 11, they engaged in a fierce one-day battle with the Kwantung Army at Qishierdaodingzi. On August 12, they fought the 128th Division of the Kwantung Army at Dongdalingzi. After two days of intense combat, they annihilated 2,300 Kwantung Army soldiers (including capturing one major general and 1,000 other ranks), while the Soviet forces suffered over 2,100 casualties.
