The scenic area is situated in Guanxi Town, Longnan County, approximately 25 kilometers from the county seat. It was established during the early Southern Song Dynasty when the founding ancestor Xu Youweng led his descendants from Taihe, Jiangxi, through a series of migrations to settle in Guanxi—an area with a history of nearly a thousand years. Nestled within a small basin of Guanxi Cave, the ancient village features the serpentine Guanxi River flowing from north to south. With verdant peaks to the east, an ancient pagoda to the west, Dongshan Mountain rising to the south, and the Guanxi River flowing to the north, the area is embraced by mountains and water, forming a naturally stunning landscape covering around 3 square kilometers. The village preserves a collection of well-maintained walled houses, including Guanxi New Walled Village, Xichang Walled Village, Penggao Walled Village, Fuhe Walled Village, Zhenxia Walled Village, and Tianxin Walled Village. These structures are arranged like stars surrounding the moon, each with its own unique features, forming a remarkably preserved ancient residential architectural complex that showcases the styles and characteristics of walled houses built across various periods in southern Jiangxi during the Ming and Qing dynasties.

At the heart of the scenic area lies the Guanxi New Walled Village—the most intact, largest in scale, and most fully functional of the square-shaped Hakka residences discovered in China. Celebrated as a "palatial-style building with nine halls and eighteen rooms" in Hakka folklore, it has been hailed as the "Ancient Roman Castle of the East," a "living fossil of Han and Jin dynasty watchtowers," and the "folk palace scattered among the people."

The scenic area includes a variety of walled house architectural landmarks such as Guanxi New Walled Village, Xichang Walled Village, Penggao Walled Village, Tianxin Walled Village, and Fuhe Walled Village, along with over 20 other attractions including Guanxi Pagoda, beacon towers, Yiyuan Garden, Hundred Fruit Garden, and the Hakka Museum—making it the most quintessentially Hakka cultural tourism destination.
