Bingbingbei
Located in the northwest of Shibanyan Township, Linzhou City, this place experiences warm water and air in the severe winter, but cold water and ice formation in the peak of summer. Bingbingbei has an ice-covered area of approximately 600 square meters. Every year, as winter fades and spring arrives—when plants begin to grow anew—ice starts to form here, lasting for as long as five months. By the time of the Mid-Autumn Festival in August, when a slight chill begins to set in, the ice here starts to melt. The peak of the ice season coincides with the height of summer, during the sweltering dog days. Stepping into this precious spot immediately brings a bone-chilling cold. In contrast, during the deep winter months, the area emits warm steam, with mild spring-like spring water, and lush vegetation along the stream, creating a topsy-turvy sense of the seasons.

There is also a magical legend about Bingbingbei: In ancient times, there was a deep pool here. The pool water was used by local people to irrigate fields and for drinking. One summer, an evil dragon flew in, instantly stirring up sand and stones, sending flames into the sky, withering the plants, drying up the pool, and bringing disaster upon the villagers. Helpless, the people begged the dragon to stop the calamity, but the dragon refused. They built a temple and prayed, yet the dragon still would not relent. At that time, Iron-Crutch Li, one of the legendary Eight Immortals, happened to pass by. Unable to bear the dragon’s mischief, he thrust his staff into the seabed, commanding the Dragon King to release water, and then threw a piece of ice from his magical gourd to tightly cover the area around the pool, sealing the evil dragon beneath the pool.

Thus, this marvelous spectacle came into being.
