The park was built in three phases from May 2009 to April 2010, based on existing forest resources and leveraging the tourism resources of Zhongliang Mountain. It covers an area of 10 square kilometers, with a built-up area of 18,000 square meters and a total investment of 120 million yuan. The park features a 16-kilometer mountain hiking trail and a 2-kilometer waterside fitness trail, meandering through the 10-square-kilometer forest park. Based on the surrounding natural scenery, road conditions, vegetation, and reservoir water bodies, it offers various types of trails including bluestone paths, gravel paths, and wooden boardwalks. In 2012, it was rated as a National AAA-level tourist attraction by the Chongqing Municipal Tourism Administration.
Major tourist attractions include: the Cultural Leisure Square, the main hiking trail, the viewing platform, the 300 Steps, the Ecological Orchard, Wenfeng Mountain, Dahegou Reservoir, the Tourism Culture Street, and the Visitor Reception Center.
Cultural Leisure Square: Located at the main entrance of the park, it covers an area of 21,000 square meters. It consists of a central square, a cultural corridor with water features, and a fitness garden, along with a 6,000-square-meter parking lot. It integrates cultural leisure, fitness and entertainment, humanistic landscapes, and green ecology. The square features a variety of flowers, plants, and trees that complement each other, blending beautifully with the forest, grassland, and water bodies of the scenic area.
Main Hiking Trail: Connecting the Cultural Leisure Square with the mountain viewing platform, the main trail is 720 meters long with 1,013 steps, featuring both straight and winding sections. Lined with lush trees and surrounded by mountains, the scenic environment is exceptional. It is the highest-grade and longest urban hiking trail in Chongqing’s main urban area, serving as an ideal spot for citizens to hike, enjoy the view, and participate in hiking competitions.
Viewing Platform: Located between the main hiking trail and the 300 Steps, at an altitude of about 500 meters, it is the highest point in the forest park. From the viewing platform, visitors can overlook the panoramic view of Baishiyi Town under Zhongliang Mountain and the winding mountain ranges. Standing here helps relieve work pressure and soothe the mind.
300 Steps (Dengyun Steps): Located east of the main hiking trail within the park, these steps are spread across the dense 10-square-kilometer forest, with closely spaced peaks and winding paths. Due to the complex geographical environment, the trail varies — sometimes flat, sometimes steep, extending in multiple directions and arranged in an orderly yet dynamic fashion. It gets its name from the steepest section, which has 300 steps. As your gaze follows the steps upward, the unseen scenery ahead always brings anticipation, encouraging visitors to climb higher.
Ecological Orchard (Huaguoyuan): Located in the heart of the park, it mainly grows plums and loquats. From May to June, visitors can come during the harvest season to pick fruits and enjoy both the hike and the experience of picking from an ecological orchard.
Wenfeng Mountain (commonly known as Luohano Slope): Located within the park, its highest point is at an altitude of 560 meters. The scenery is unique, and climbing to the top offers a breathtaking view that makes one feel as though they are above all the other mountains. About 20 meters below the summit lies a large cliff carving of the “Maitreya Buddha,” which is 2.8 meters tall and 3.2 meters wide. It was originally built in the 26th year of the Guangxu reign during the Qing Dynasty (1890 AD), making it 122 years old. The carving is exquisitely detailed and well-preserved, with the stone Buddha having delicate features, a serene expression, and a warm smile. It is commonly known as “Luohano Slope.”
Dahegou Reservoir: Located at the foot of Wenfeng Mountain in the park, it features a 2-kilometer waterside fitness trail. The trail includes bluestone paths and wooden boardwalks. Along the way, there are resting pavilions and benches. With fresh air, clear water, and a beautiful environment, it is a great spot for travel, leisure, and fitness.
Tourism Culture Street: Located at the park entrance, it is a demonstration site for integrated urban-rural development in Baishiyi Town. This street is meticulously built in the style of southwestern Chinese dwellings and includes public leisure venues such as restaurants, hotels, teahouses, and tourist shops. It complements the park facilities, making it convenient for visitors to relax, dine, and shop.
Chongqing Baishiyi Forest Park focuses on hiking and fitness activities, and its hiking trail is known as the “No. 1 Urban Hiking Trail in Chongqing.” It not only provides another place for fitness and leisure for residents of Chongqing but also meets the needs of various types of hiking competitions. It realizes the vision of bringing the forest into the city and the city embracing the forest, effectively advancing the construction of a “Forest Chongqing” and a “Healthy Chongqing.” On New Year’s Day 2011, CCTV-5 broadcast the National (Western) Mass Hiking Fitness Event live from here. The park has also successfully hosted multiple municipal and district-level hiking events and has received praise from citizens. Major tourism events include the April 2010 Chongqing-Hong Kong Youth Hiking Activity and the 8th Zhongliang Mountain Hiking Festival held from April 29 to May 3, 2011. The park attracts over 400,000 hikers every year.
