The park is divided into north and south sections, separated by a stream that runs east-west along the edge of the sand mountain. The northern section covers an area of 500 acres, featuring a water activity zone, cultural and entertainment zone, children's activity zone, flower viewing area, and vineyard on the eastern side. The western side includes a lawn area and botanical garden. The southern section consists of desert terrain, with designated areas for desert activities, sand therapy, and desert plant exhibits.
On the sand dunes in the southern part of the park, summers are scorching and winters are cold, with significant temperature variations between day and night. During midsummer, temperatures soar, with surface sand heat reaching over 70°C and peaking at 82.3°C. The park has designated sand therapy areas, attracting many visitors with conditions such as arthritis seeking treatment. Further south lies a prominent large sand dune, where the ridge is sharply defined, the crest smooth as a line, the windward slope rippling like flowing silk, and the leeward slope cascading with pouring sands. Standing atop the dune, one can await the spectacular sunrise over the desert or witness the natural wonder of the sunset dyeing the horizon — all while feeling completely at one with nature. The northern part of the park, separated from the dunes by a stream, enjoys relatively stable temperatures year-round, with cool and humid summers. A stream formed by spring water is clear and gently flowing, surrounded by tall, elegant ancient trees that provide dense shade. In the depressions, bubbling springs disturb the sandy bed, creating a fascinating scene. The park also features an artificial lake with crystal-clear blue waters reflecting the pavilion on the islet in the center, set against the backdrop of the towering sand mountains — a uniquely enchanting sight. Thanks to its exceptional conditions, Sand Mountain Park has become a key urban development project for Shanshan County. It currently receives over ten thousand visitors annually. Plans to integrate sand mountain tourism routes with park development are expected to establish regional advantages, making it one of the most promising tourist destinations with highly attractive offerings.
