Longgui Island Scenic Area
The Longgui Island Scenic Area is situated in the Mantianxing Scenic Area, spanning 6.03 square kilometers. It is home to the only island in the scenic zone that is encircled by water on three sides and borders mountains on the fourth. The island is higher and steeper in the northwest but gentler in the southeast, giving it a uniquely shaped landform. Approaching from Baicaogou, the first sight to greet visitors is the steep cliffs that rise dramatically out of the vast waters, undulating over a kilometer in length and resembling a dormant dragon coiled for a thousand years, ready to soar into the sky. When viewed from the Shuangshui Scenic Area, the island looks like a millennia-old divine turtle resting peacefully in the shimmering lake. A bird’s-eye view of the entire island reveals the dragon-like cliffs lying atop the turtle-shaped landmass, hence its name — Longgui Island, or Dragon-Turtle Island.
