In terms of overall planning, Duxiu Park is divided into three major functional zones: the Ecological Forest Area, the Duxiu Park Area, and the Eco-tourism Area. The Ecological Forest Area incorporates elements such as science education and mountain viewing, taking advantage of the natural landscape. The Eco-tourism Area includes appropriate arrangements for recreational entertainment, a reception center, and a nursery. The core area of Duxiu Park fully utilizes the natural terrain and landforms, centering around the commemorative theme, to form a functional structure comprising “one axis, two zones, and three gardens.”
The eastern part of the Duxiu Park core area is the cemetery zone, featuring a north-south commemorative axis primarily composed of an entrance archway, a memorial path, a statue of Chen Duxiu, a memorial square, a water feature, and the tomb mound. It is surrounded by dense forest greenery to create a strong and solemn commemorative atmosphere, expressing people’s reverence and remembrance for Chen Duxiu. This space is designed for activities such as paying tribute and mourning. To the west of the cemetery zone is the museum zone, where the Chen Duxiu Museum is situated on open lawns beside calm water, integrating harmoniously with the surroundings to provide an atmosphere that is both dignified and approachable. The western part of Duxiu Park adopts a more dispersed and lively layout, forming three themed gardens by the natural water bodies: the Martyrs’ Garden, the New Culture Movement Memorial Garden, and the Youth Revolutionary Tradition Education Garden.
The Martyrs’ Garden is located in the northwest of Duxiu Park. Its primary function is to honor revolutionary martyrs and commemorate their heroic deeds. The garden consists of a Peach Orchard Plaza and a sunken plaza. The Peach Orchard Plaza, themed around neatly arranged peach trees, symbolizes how the sacrifices of the martyrs have led to flourishing achievements today. The sunken plaza features relief sculptures around its perimeter depicting the tragic scenes of the First Revolutionary Civil War. The New Culture Movement Memorial Garden is situated in the southwest of Duxiu Park. It is a thematic park commemorating the New Culture Movement, using relief walls to display the emergence and development of the movement. It honors the events and leading figures of the New Culture Movement. The planted ginkgo grove symbolizes the thriving growth and abundant fruits of the movement. To inherit the great spirit and noble character of Chen Duxiu and to educate the next generation, a Youth Revolutionary Education Garden has been designed in the southwest of Duxiu Park. The Red Scarf Plaza within the garden provides a space for children to engage in revolutionary tradition education activities.
