Renxi Wood Carvings

   Product Name: Renxi Wood Carvings

  Place of Origin: Wenzhou

Product Features: The products are vivid and lifelike, with creative designs, novel shapes, exquisite carving, a blend of illusion and reality, and vitality in stillness.

Product Description: Local pear wood has been used in place of boxwood, overcoming the previous limitation of only being able to create small works due to wood restrictions. This has enabled the production of many large-scale pieces that better express the thematic ideas of the artworks. The carvings are vivid and lifelike, creatively designed, exquisitely carved, and feature a blend of illusion and reality as well as vitality within stillness, giving viewers a sense of realism and intimacy. Yongjia wood carvings include over a hundred varieties and are exported to more than ten countries and regions including the United States, Japan, France, and the United Kingdom.

Product History: Yongjia is one of the birthplaces of boxwood carving in Zhejiang Province. Along with Dongyang wood carvings and Qingtian stone carvings, it is known as one of the “Three Carving Arts of Zhejiang.” Renxi, located in the lower reaches of the Nanxi River, has a long history of carving art and is known as the “Hometown of Carving.” In recent years, Renxi boxwood carvings have seen significant improvements in both subject matter and artistic techniques. In terms of material selection, wood carvings were previously mostly used for carving Buddha statues, constructing temples, making dragon lanterns, carving plaques, and creating screens and furniture. Through the efforts of artisans over generations, they have now become handicrafts specifically for appreciation. In terms of artistic techniques, the strengths of stone carving and ivory carving have been incorporated, leading to the emergence of hollow-carving and multi-figure assembly methods.
