Forsythia from Shexian is a protected geographical indication product.

　　Shexian is located deep in the mountains, with valleys crisscrossing its territory. Its unique geographical location and favorable climate nurture abundant authentic medicinal herb resources such as forsythia, earning it the titles “Medicine Valley of Southern Hebei in the Taihang Mountains” and “Modern Traditional Chinese Medicine Science and Technology Industrial Base.” According to test data from the Hebei Provincial Institute for Food and Drug Control, the forsythin content in Shexian forsythia is 0.69%, which is 2.3 times the pharmacopoeia requirement (not less than 0.35%) and ranks first among forsythia nationwide; the forsythoside A content is 18.3%, 1.67 times the pharmacopoeia requirement (not less than 0.25%), and its microscopic features and moisture content meet the standards of the 2010 edition of the pharmacopoeia. At the same time, the levels of heavy metals and pesticide residues in Shexian forsythia are significantly lower than national limits.
